Transform ordinary fabric into wearable art through the ancient technique of shibori indigo dyeing! In this hands-on workshop, you'll dive into the mesmerizing world of shibori—a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing method that creates stunning patterns through folding, binding, and compressing fabric before immersion in indigo dye.
What you'll experience and learn:
• Master multiple shibori folding and binding techniques
• Create your own unique patterns through thoughtful manipulation of fabric
• Understand the chemistry and tradition behind natural indigo dyeing
• Use a living indigo vat
• Witness the magical transformation as your bound fabric emerges from the indigo bath, changing from yellow-green to brilliant blue before your eyes
Each participant will be able to dye one small item they bring from home and a test patch, and you'll leave with a beautiful handcrafted indigo bandanna. Perfect for fiber enthusiasts, crafters, fashion lovers, or anyone seeking a meditative creative experience. No prior dyeing experience necessary—just bring your curiosity and prepare to get your hands (temporarily) blue!
Note: Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dye on, as indigo can splash. All materials provided. This class has a 6 person minimum and will be canceled if that minimum is not reached by 9/20
