Nature Is Magical
our beginnings
Some of us find plants. Others remember them.
For me, it was remembering.
A quieting down into something I had always known at a cellular level — that the earth provides, that plants hold intelligence older and deeper than anything we could manufacture, and that when we orient ourselves toward them with curiosity and reverence, something opens.
Plants are conduits to co-creation and respecting our place here on earth.
They don't just address symptoms — they invite us into relationship. With the land, with the season, with the living systems we are part of whether we acknowledge them or not.
our founder
Hello, I’m Colleen
I’m Colleen O’Bryant, founder of Wild Roots Apothecary and love, wild gardens and I’m truly glad you’re here.
I don’t believe it’s a coincidence that you landed on this page. If you’re willing to get curious and lean in, I trust there’s something here meant to support you.
Whether you’re just beginning to explore natural healing or you’ve been on your wellness journey for years— our goal is to create community through the resilience of plant medicine.
My first remembering was eating warm elderberries, fresh off of the stem - that sour, sweet bite that took me back to gathering baskets of them in our fields so my mother could make Elderberry jam for the winter. It was one of the seed that helped me find my way into herbalism.
So that's what we do here, make products that truly and cleanly support the body, mind and spirit. Building bridges of connections through every cuppa tea that brings us closer to what we need.
our beginnings
How Wild Roots Began
Wild Roots Apothecary grew from that moment.
Not from a business plan, but from a deepening — of study, of growing and harvesting, of sitting with plants long enough to understand what they were offering.
When the apothecary opened its doors in Sperryville, it was an extension of that practice made physical. A place where the knowing could be shared and amplified.
Eleven years later, that is still the root of everything here.
The making of the remedies, from infused oils to tinctures and teas, the gardens, the classes, the gathering space taking shape — all of it is in service of the same truth: that the plants are here for us.
And that when we honor that — when we slow down enough to really see what's growing around us — we are all allowed a stronger, more alive connection to ourselves and to this earth.
our why
Why Plants Matter
Plant medicine works.
Not because it's trendy, and not because we say so — but because it's just part of the rhythm of Mother Earth supporting us.
People have been healing with plants since the beginning, and that intelligence hasn't gone anywhere.
The stories that move through this apothecary are humbling.
Chronic pain easing. Energy returning after years of depletion. Bodies finding their way back to balance. People remembering that this kind of healing has always been available to them and inspiring them to do more.
Plants have been doing this work since long before us, and they'll continue long after.
What we offer at Wild Roots is a doorway back into that — the plants, remedies, the education, the gardens, the gathering spaces, the community.
Focusing on matters most. Bringing folks closer to plants.
